On the morning of May 5, Chen Yantai,
Vice President of Zhejiang Gongshang University, visited Academician Shen
Shuzhong at Nanjing University, accompanied by Gao Yan, Director of Talent
Office, and Wang Meizhen, Executive Dean of College of Environmental Science
and Engineering.
Academician Shen Shuzhong and Chen
Yantai have had in-depth exchanges and discussions on the development of
disciplines and training of young teachers. Academician Shen Shuzhong fully
affirmed the achievements made by College of Environmental Science and Engineering
of Zhejiang Gongshang University in recent years in reform and development,
especially in discipline construction and personnel training. He suggested that
College of Environmental Science and Engineering strengthen cross-integration,
highlight the characteristics of the leading, and strive to create a dominant
direction. Academician Shen Shuzhong said that he will continue to guide the
discipline planning and construction of the College of Environmental Science
and Engineering of Zhejiang Gongshang University in the future, and strive to
promote the extraordinary development of the college.
At the end of the visit, Academician
Shen expressed his gratitude to the Zhejiang Gongshang University and hoped
that alma mater will have a prosperous future.
Shen Shuzhong, a stratigraphic
paleontologist, is a professor at the College of Earth Science and Engineering
of Nanjing University, and the first distinguished alumnus of our university.
Graduated from Zhejiang Coal Industry School, one of the predecessor of
Zhejiang Gongshang University, majoring in geology. He received his Ph.D.
degree from China University of Mining and Technology in 1989. At the end of
2000, he was introduced from Australia to work in Nanjing Institute of Geology
and Palaeontology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He was co-elected as an
academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2015. He won the Gold Medal
of the International Commission on Stratigraphy (2019), the Second Prize of
National Natural Science (2010, ranked second), the Outstanding Returnees
Achievement Award (2002), the Li Siguang Geological Science Award (2015) and
the He Liang He Li Award (2022). He served as Chairman of the International
Permian Stratigraphy Branch from 2012 to 2020 and Vice Chairman of the International
Commission on Stratigraphy from August 2020.
